From Rock Bottom To Flight Path
Secret Bird Society started as something deeply personal, during a season of my life that felt darker than I ever knew possible.
I had walked away from everything - my career, my house, my abusive marriage, and my comfort zone - with nothing but my kids and a flicker of faith that I could rebuild. That I could rise.
And strangely enough, birds met me there.
During my divorce I moved to a rental house in Corona Del Mar, CA. I didn’t know I was also moving into the middle of a sky full of guardians. Red-Tailed Hawks perched in the trees along the perimeter of my yard during the day like watchful bodyguards. At night, Great Horned Owls graced those same trees, calling back and forth - sometimes answering me when I answered them.
It became a rhythm.
Day shift. Night shift.
I was protected.
I was seen.
And they gave me a reason to look up.
Secret Bird Society is founded on this perspective shift. From realizing that elevation is sometimes as simple - and as powerful - as lifting your eyes toward the sky and reaching for more.
Every design begins with that philosophy: resilience, strength, and the discipline of rising even when the tunnel feels impossibly long. I develop each piece intentionally, refining typography, placement, and message, before partnering with trusted production teams who prioritize quality and thoughtful manufacturing.
We all carry unseen wings. No matter how impossible things feel, no matter how long and dark the tunnel, we always have the power to lift off.
This isn’t just fashion.
This is wearable perspective.
And this is not just clothing. This is proof. Proof that you can overcome. That your story doesn't end where it broke you - it begins where you rise.
SBS is for those who fly in silence, who view obstacles as privilege, who meet challenges with gratitude. SBS is for those who carry power others can't see, and who elevate not only themselves, but those around them.
Today, I live on Balboa Island, and the birds are different but the lessons continue. Great Blue Herons stand in stillness, teaching patience, precision, and perseverance. Pelicans glide effortlessly before diving with bold commitment. Ospreys hunt with sharp focus - no tools, no noise, just instinct. And a large community of Black-Crowned Night Herons nest in a tree behind my home.
I still have a night shift.
